With 44 drivers booked-in, there was inevitably going to be some close
racing, particularly amongst the 33 drivers racing in the Stock Touring
class.
Driver's Briefing from Bob and Howard
Stock Touring Qualifying
The Stock class saw some close qualifying times with just over 2
seconds covering the top four fastest drivers. Current Winter
Series Stock champion Nick Bruty dominated qualifying once again,
holding on to FTD throughout qualifying. A good points score at this round
could seal the championship for Nick...
John Davie with his new Tamiya TB Evo 3 was quick and secured 2nd on the
grid in round 2 of qualifying.
Adi Wright qualified 3rd with Tim Hastie and Howard Harrison completing
the top 5.
It was good to see lots of new drivers racing in the Stock class, many
of whom are achieving much better lap times than their first race at the
Beginners Fun Day held last December. Keep up the good work lads.
Some
running repairs kept Gary Smith (pictured left) racing for the rest of
the day following an unfortunate crash with another car. Gary's
Schumacher Mission came off worse with a broken chassis. Fortunately,
Gary was able to patch up the chassis with a temporary fix. Bad
luck Gary :-(
Stock Touring A-Final
It was business as usual for Nick Bruty as he sailed home in first
place for both legs of the Final. There was some close racing
between Adi, John, Tim, Howard and David for the to 5 places. The
track had got a little faster by the time the finals came round, with
Nick just a shade off an 18 lapper.
After both legs, the top five overall for this round were as follows:
1st Nick Bruty
2nd John Davie
3rd Adi Wright
4th Tim Hastie
5th David Sharp
Nick Bruty's score at this round means that he retains his Winter Series
crown once again. Well done Nick. The other finishing
positions are still wide open and could go to a number of drivers.
This makes for an interesting final round next month.
Super Touring Qualifying
There were 11 drivers battling it out in this class. Rob
Hughes Jnr set the early pace in round 1 with 19/306.00s. Ian
Whittingham went much quicker in round 2 and then round 3 to clinch FTD.
Mark Traversoni left it until the last round to get 2nd place on the
grid for the finals. Rob Hughes Jnr settled for 3rd, ahead of Luke
Burr in 4th and Jamie Bates in 5th.
Super Touring A-Final
The top three finishers in both legs of the final were Ian
Whittingham, Rob Hughes Jnr and Luke Burr. 2nd on the grid driver
Mark Traversoni dropped out of the first leg with a loose electrical
connection.
After both legs, the top five
overall for this round were as follows:
1st Ian Whittingham
2nd Rob Hughes Jnr
3rd Luke Burr
4th Chris Cook
5th Daniel Mercer
Mark
Traversoni has done enough to once again to win the Winter Series with
one round remaining. Well done Mark.
